Segovia
Segovia is a historic city northwest of Madrid in central Spain. Its centuries of settlement have resulted in a rich architectural legacy, including medieval walls, Romanesque churches, a former royal palace and a Gothic cathedral. Its iconic ancient Roman aqueduct has more than 160 arches, most in the original mortarless granite, and stands above Plaza Azoguejo in the heart of the city.
The aqueduct. We would have torn it down to put up a condo or something.

Segovia Cathedral. This is how I imagine Jesus looks when we do stupid stuff.

In the streets.
Not quite sure what this is all about but I love this expression.
This little guy was waiting to greet me in the doorway of the shop where he lives. This is Felipe. His Mom, the owner and artist, has several other very pretty kitties, including a beautiful Siamese. She told me they were all abandoned street cats and she took them in. I bought something from her.
A few other views of Segovia and El Alcazar.
The convent below was just beautiful. It was a monastery but the boys left and gave it to the ladies, nuns of St. Clare. It's called San Antonio El Real Convent. Again, lovely wooden carved and decorated ceilings. All of the furnishings in it are original... from the 1500s. The paintings in this dining hall were done by the monks (or sisters, not sure!) and they're kinda primitive but that's all the better.
Beautiful pics - glad you're getting your "kitty" fix
ReplyDeleteLove Segovia-I was there after a snowstorm several years ago. Beautiful old Spanish city.
ReplyDeleteI like the pictures, but most importantly like your commentary! :)
